The MyWay Digital Health team, in collaboration with NHS England,  The University of Edinburgh and the University of Dundee, are running a 2-day free-to-access massive open online course (MOOC), Understanding Type 1 Diabetes, on Tuesday the 1st and Wednesday 2nd of December 2020.

The course is open to all and is designed for people with type 1 diabetes, however, it may also be useful for people that care for someone with type 1, friends and family or healthcare professionals looking for a refresh of knowledge. Registration is now open at understandingtype1.mydiabetes.com

Structured education is of vital importance for people with type 1 diabetes. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing face-to-face structured education is difficult if not impossible. Therefore, online solutions can help provide this care remotely.

The course will span 2 days, complete with new video content and interactive quizzes:

Day 1 will be available from 7 am on Tuesday the 1st December and will cover what type 1 diabetes is, blood glucose monitoring and insulin.

Day 2 will be available from 7 am on Wednesday the 2nd December and will cover the complications of diabetes and topics related to living with diabetes, such as driving, travel, alcohol, physical activity and sick day guidance.

On the course, there will be a live discussion forum for participants, monitored by healthcare professionals from the UK including diabetes doctors, diabetes dieticians and diabetes specialist nurses. On both days there will be a live Q&A from 6 – 7 pm (GMT) with Dr Debbie Wake through our Facebook page.

So please join us on the 1st and 2nd of December to understanding more about type 1 diabetes by registering now, or spread the word to those within your network that you think may be interested.
