We provide a variety of short open courses designed to address the education needs of both people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and healthcare professionals. Each course is usually delivered over 2 days, although we keep the site open for a few additional days to allow people to work through the content. The course also includes live Q&A sessions with diabetes experts, ensuring comprehensive support. Our courses are crafted to be inclusive and easily accessible.

Understanding Type 1 Diabetes

This QISMET accredited course is dedicated to type 1 diabetes and provides valuable insights into the daily experiences of individuals managing this condition. Day 1 delves into the fundamentals of type 1 diabetes, exploring topics such as diagnosis, treatment options, blood glucose monitoring, and intricate details about insulin. On Day 2, the focus shifts to an in-depth examination of diabetes complications and their impact on the body. The course concludes by addressing practical aspects of living with type 1 diabetes, including considerations for travel and the influence of lifestyle choices on effective management.

The course is supported by live Q&A sessions featuring healthcare professionals who actively participate in discussions and address questions, enhancing the overall learning experience.

Understanding Type 2 Diabetes

This QISMET-accredited course covers the basics of type 2 diabetes, including diagnosis, various treatment options, and the possibility of remission. It also explains why diabetes is important, touching on managing blood sugar, treatment goals, and long-term issues.

Running concurrently with this general course, we offer a culturally specific course that emphasizes the unique needs of ethnic communities and their experiences with type 2 diabetes.

T1 Diabetes and Technology

This course covers technologies for managing type 1 diabetes, including continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pump therapy. It provides insights on sensor usage, result interpretation, dose calculation, and lifestyle aspects.

Participants explore hybrid closed-loop systems and smart pens for advanced diabetes care. The course includes a live Q&A with diabetes experts on Zoom, who also moderate discussion boards and respond to comments throughout the course.

Diabetes and Ramadan

We offer two Ramadan-focused diabetes courses in partnership with the Diabetes and Ramadan International Alliance. One course is tailored for healthcare professionals in English, and the other is designed for individuals with diabetes in English, Arabic, and Malay.

Both courses aim to guide informed fasting decisions through risk assessment, safe fasting practices, dietary/physical activity guidance, medication adjustments and establishing safety nets. Live Q&A sessions with diabetes experts on Zoom are available in Arabic, Malay, and English.
